Textiles in Chiapas are a living language. Today, we begin the first of two exclusive Mayan embroidery sessions led by an indigenous artisan. You will learn the foundational, symbolic stitches used for centuries to weave personal and community identity, applying them to your own tote bag to keep. Enjoy lunch at leisure at one of the exceptional cafes a short walk from the town square. In the afternoon, we tour the stunning Centro de Textiles del Mundo Maya, a museum that beautifully contextualizes the complex history and evolution of Mesoamerican dress. End the day with a dynamic mixology class tailored just for us, shaking up artisanal cocktails (or mocktails) infused with local botanicals and fruits, followed by a celebratory dinner.

Today offers a dazzling contrast of nature and culture. We start with a morning boat ride through the monumental, sheer limestone cliffs of the Sumidero Canyon, keeping an eye out for sunbathing crocodiles, spider monkeys, and sweeping birdlife along the Grijalva River. Next, we'll visit the historic Pueblo Mágico of Chiapa de Corzo, which offers an enchanting journey into the heart of Chiapas culture and natural beauty. As you wander through the colonial streets, the vibrant town square immediately captivates you with La Pila, a magnificent 16th-century, crown-shaped brick fountain built in the Moorish style. Nearby, the grand Santo Domingo Temple stands as a testament to the region's deep history, while the adjacent Lacquer Museum showcases the brilliant, hand-painted woodwork of local artisans. We will enjoy lunch overlooking the river, before returning to San Cristóbal for a free evening to stroll the lit streets and enjoy dinner on your own.

Overnight: San Cristóbal de las Casas
Journey into two autonomous indigenous Tzotzil Maya communities, each fiercely preserving their distinct way of life. First is San Juan de Chamula, famous for its mystical church where centuries-old pre-Hispanic rituals blend seamlessly with Catholicism. Inside, pine needles carpet the floor, thousands of flickering candles glow, and traditional shamans lead powerful family healings (out of respect, photography is strictly forbidden). Afterward, we head to neighboring Zinacantán, a village draped in brilliant floral garments. We’ll meet a family of master backstrap-loom weavers, seeing their precise craft firsthand, enjoying a simple lunch of fresh-pressed tortillas, and having the chance to purchase extraordinary textiles straight from the source. Return to the hotel to finish your custom embroidered tote bag before a warm group dinner.

Travel to the Tzeltal Maya village of Amatenango del Valle, renowned across Mexico for its pre-Columbian pottery methods. Here, women artisans shape local mud entirely by hand—without a pottery wheel—and open-air fire the pieces using specialized wood. You’ll sit with an artisan, try your hand at shaping the clay, and pick out a signature piece to take home. We return to San Cristóbal by early afternoon, leaving the rest of the day completely open for your own pace. Book a rejuvenating massage at the hotel spa, hunt for treasures at the bustling Artisans’ Market, or simply read in a sunlit courtyard before we gather for our final highland dinner.

Bid farewell to the highlands as our Sprinter van winds down toward the tropical lowlands. En route to the jungle, we break up the drive at the breathtaking Cascadas de Agua Azul. Here, a series of cascading waterfalls rush over limestone ridges, creating mesmerizing, brilliant turquoise pools. Take a refreshing swim or walk the paths shaded by the canopy. By late afternoon, arrive at our beautiful jungle lodge tucked away in Palenque. Settle into your room and listen closely—you can frequently hear, and spot, families of wild howler monkeys lounging in the trees right from the swimming pool. Dine together as the jungle twilight sets in.

Overnight: Palenque
We enter the archeological zone of Palenque exactly as the gates open, catching the morning mist rising off the temples before the crowds arrive. Guided by a local expert, you will wander through this brilliant example of Maya architecture, learning about the brilliant rulers, intricate hieroglyphs, and advanced engineering that defined this jungle kingdom. We will also tour the site's newly remodeled museum. Head back to the lodge for a free afternoon to relax by the pool, walk the property trails, or enjoy lunch at your own pace. Dinner is hosted tonight right on the property, surrounded by the symphonies of the rainforest.

Spend your final full day soaking in the natural and spiritual magic of Palenque. We head first to Cascadas Roberto Barrios, a local secret featuring multi-tiered, crystal-clear turquoise pools hidden deep in the jungle, perfect for a peaceful, unhurried swim. Return to the hotel to pack and prepare for our poignant farewell ritual: a traditional Mayan Temazcal. This ancient, dome-shaped volcanic sweat lodge uses heated stones and medicinal herbs to completely cleanse the body and mind. It is a profoundly restorative, transformative experience that grounds your entire 10-day journey. Celebrate your final night with a private farewell dinner exclusively for our group.
